Road Rally School & Practice TSD Rally

WHAT: TSD Road Rally School

REGISTRATION OPENS: July 1st, 2026

REGISTRATION CLOSES: August 5th, 2026

TIME: August 8th, Registration at 8:00, school starts at 8:15am

START LOCATION:  Parnell Memorial Library, 277 Park Dr, Montevallo AL 35115.

WHAT DOES IT COST TO REGISTER? Per car: $25 with an SCCA membership.  If a team doesn't have an SCCA membership a $25 weekend membership is also needed.  Credit cards aren’t charged until the day of or after the event so there is no risk for registering early. Limited to 20 cars.  We will have a wait list if necessary.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?  Approximately 6 hours, broken into the classroom session – 1.5 hours which includes registration, the class and a break before getting to your car to depart on a practice leg; a short odometer check and a TSD leg of 70 miles lasting about 2 hr. We’ll end at Durbin Farms (exit 205 on I-65) in Clanton for a lunch and discussion of the morning fun.

IS IT SAFE?  This is not a race, and you don't need any special equipment or any kind of special car.  You do have to remember you are sharing the road with other drivers.

SO WHY IS IT FUN?  What is a Road Rally? It’s a scenic drive with a purpose: a chance to enjoy a day with a friend and is the least expensive form of motorsport.  One participant described it as, “The most intense thing I have ever done!"  Considering that this, “most intense thing,” was done on a public road without ever breaking any laws in a car with absolutely no modifications, it’s clear that a Road Rally is much more than a simple phrase can describe.  You might also find a quote about your heart pounding, and that could actually happen.

CAN MY CHILDREN OR GRANDCHILDREN COME?  The school portion is not appropriate for children younger than 14yo. You can have observers less than 19yo in the back seat.  The driving is easy, but the discussion can be intense at times, so we're limiting drivers to those who have a valid license, NO learner's permits, though they could be your navigator. See separate information about minor waivers (this is very important-no “wiggle room” here)!

CAN I BRING MY PET?  No, sorry.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING? Clipboard (I like the ones that open and hold your supplies), pencils, pens, highlighters (3 or 4), small calculator, phone holder and a stopwatch or simple digital timer.

WAIVERS? At the event, we will have you sign a waiver or show that you have an SCCA annual waiver.  A separate minor waiver is required for any participant below Alabama's age of adulthood-- 19yo.  It doesn't matter if you live in another state.  Paper MINOR WAIVERS are critical and must be correctly completed  PRIOR TO THE EVENT.  This Waiver must be printed and executed in color.  If both parents are not attending the event, then the signatures need to be notarized. It can be found here: SCCA Minor Waiver Paper 2020   Don't forget to bring it to the event.  LAST MINUTE MINOR WAIVERS AT THE EVENT ARE NOT POSSIBLE

Online no-cost minor waivers: Email membership@scca.com and ask for logon credentials for a non-member minor waiver, then follow the instructions in the following link. If you are an SCCA member, use the following instructions:  SCCA Online Minor Waivers

Event requirements

The practice rally segment will be conducted in full compliance with the Abridged Road Rally Rules (RRRs) as supplemented by the events’ General Instructions (GIs). Don’t be afraid or get discouraged, we’ll cover what you need to know in the classroom portion.

Abridged Road Rally Rules

Please read carefully:

Richta Rally App Required: We will be using the free Richta GPS Checkpoint app that requires the use of a device like a smart phone or tablet that has GPS capability.
Look for "Competitor Richta GPS Checkpoints" app on Google Play Store or Apple App Store or click on the appropriate link:
Richta Competitor for Android
Richta Competitor for Apple

MotorSportsReg Accounts:Only one MSR account is required in order to register both the driver and navigator. The account is free.

If you are registering your team, you will be paying for the event entry, plus weekend membership, if needed.  Please list your other team member(s) as well as their email address. We will send out GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS just like this is a real rally.

You will be asked to certify that you have a valid driver's license; that you have the minimum required Alabama automobile insurance; and that your car passes a simple, but straight forward safety check.

Your valid license will be checked at event check-in and waivers.

If you do not already have a MotorsportReg.com account, click the 'Create New Account' button below.  You will be asked to input your SCCA member number and Region of Record.  This is your SCCA Membership number and home region.  You must have this information in your user profile to avoid needing a weekend membership for this event.  (Also, make sure your MotorsportReg.com user name matches exactly as it appears on your SCCA Membership card...otherwise, the member verification process will not validate your membership.)   Bonus, if you are a member of the Hagerty Drivers Club, you don't have to pay MSR's $2 registration fee.

Teen Driver Clinic June 6

“Killing Cones To Make Safer Drivers”

Thank you for your interest in the ALSCCA Teen Driver Clinics. You have taken a major step towards eliminating the number one cause of death among young adults - automobile wrecks. The goal of our Teen Driver Clinics is to arm your child with the basic skills they need to control an automobile in panic and accident avoidance situations. Skills they need to survive

Please complete your registration as quickly as possible since seats are filled first come, first served - and they do fill up quickly. Class size is limited so that the amount of time actually spent driving can be maximized. And that's just what they do - DRIVE! It’s the only effective way to learn Car Control!

Students must have either a learner's permit or a driver's license. Please be aware than an adult must accompany each student throughout the Clinic. Our most common feedback from parents is that they learn as much as their teen. Our focus is 15-18 year old new drivers. Any students older than 18 and with significant driving experience may be waitlisted to allow opportunities for new drivers.

This Clinic will be at Gardendale First Baptist Church, located at 940 Main Street, Gardendale, AL, 35071. Note this is the church's South Campus, NOT the newer North Campus which is located directly on I-65.

PLEASE NOTE: changes are not expected, but clinic locations/dates could change based on site availability. We send a confirmation email with important information 7-10 days prior to the clinic date.

Students should be onsite by 8:30am to complete waivers and a brief vehicle inspection. The clinic will begin promptly at 9:00am or as soon as all students have registered on-site. Our goal is to be complete by 4:00pm, but this is dependent on class size and location.

The fee for a clinic is $125. There will be a short break for lunch. Please note that two lunches are included in the price of the Clinic. We have found that supplying lunch reduces our down time and helps complete the clinic in a timely fashion. Additional lunches can be ordered for $10.00 each. If you require additional lunches, please indicate the number on the registration form. While it is not practical to take custom lunch orders for each attendee, please let us know if you have specific dietary requirements and we will attempt to make suitable arrangements.

This registration is for one student only. If you have more that one student please complete additional registration entries. Please note an adult/guardian is required to ride along with each student throughout the exercises. Please email if you have questions.

Note all communication regarding the clinic will be via email, so please register using an email address that is actively monitored.

Because we have certain fixed costs, like insurance for the property owner, late cancellations may be charged a portion of the entry fee and no-shows WILL be charged the full registration fee. So if you are unsure you can make a clinic date, please don’t select it. This also gives an opportunity to someone else who can attend on that date.

If you have any questions, please email teen.driver@alscca.net.

Please ensure that the vehicle you bring to the clinic is in sound mechanical condition. Our exercises will not damage a vehicle in proper working condition, but if you are experiencing any problems with your vehicle it should be repaired prior to attending the clinic. Please email teen.driver@alscca.net if you have any questions concerning vehicle condition.

PLEASE NOTE: We cannot allow any vehicles with lifted or "leveled" suspensions. Lift kits and leveling kits increase the risk of rollovers and decrease vehicle stability in emergency conditions. Showing up at the clinic in such a vehicle will forfeit the entire entry feeAdditionally some narrow yet tall SUVs are not appropriate for the driving exercises due to rollover risk. Most vehicles will be fine, and we have trucks, SUVs, and minivans in practically every clinic, but please email teen.driver@alscca.net in advance if you have any question about your vehicle.

Teen Driver Clinic March 21

Because we have certain fixed costs, like insurance for the property owner, late cancellations may be charged a portion of the entry fee and no-shows WILL be charged $100. So if you are unsure you can make a clinic date, please don’t select it. This also gives an opportunity to someone else who can attend on that date.

If you have any questions, please email teen.driver@alscca.net.
