TREK TO THE SAVOY! ROAD RALLY REPORT
MARCH 28, 2026
Fourteen members of ALSCCA enjoyed a great Saturday drive in two groups of cars from Leeds, AL to Cartersville, GA on March 28th, 2026 on a SCCA Trek to the Savoy automobile museum. The weather was delightful, if a bit cool for top-down motoring. Some of our participants did not let the chill keep the tops up for long however! We motored through East Alabama and West Georgia backroads, enjoying small towns and communities along the way, with some great scenery mixed in. The drive was about three hours in length.
The Leeds, Alabama Buc-ees was our starting point.
The group had a fine lunch at the Savoy Café, followed by a private tour of the entire spread of cars, including special exhibits called “Hoods Up! Ferrari In America”, and “Cars and Music”. Mary, an excellent Savoy museum docent, provided the group with a 1.5 hour deep-dive into many elements of automotive history on display, from early 1940’s ground breaking cars, the genesis of 1950’s sports cars in America, key generations of America’s sports car, Corvette, followed by the muscle car era, and concluding with millions of dollars worth of Ferrari’s, old and new, on the floor. If you’ve never visited the Savoy, it is a highly recommended stop for car enthusiasts – beautiful architecture, fantastically maintained grounds and displays, managed by true car enthusiasts, always with special cars on view, and a great history background.
The Ferrari in America exhibition was a highlight of the tour.
At the conclusion of our tour, the group thanked our museum guides, wished safe motoring to each other, and headed back in multiple paths to home in Alabama. Come join ALSCCA for more upcoming rallies and motorsport events in 2026. Let’s have fun with cars!
Spending time at the Savoy Automotive Museum should be on every car enthusiast’s to-do list.
If possible, please upload any pictures of the event to our shared Onedrive:
We are collecting stuff there for use in the future rally classes and such.
